SBC Hive Spotlight – AJ Pomeroy-Julius
We are back with our latest installment of the SBC Hive spotlight! This week, we are highlighting the talents of AJ Pomeroy-Julius who contributes to the SBC Network as a Content Creator and loyal blog member! Please read on to learn more about what AJ is working on!
Tell us about your professional background. How long have you been in your line of work? What is your current role/position?
I have a BA in English, but my professional background is in banking. I started on this career path just over a decade ago. Currently I’m in a position of branch leadership for a credit union whose mission closely matches my own. The cooperative banking model in which members are owners – as opposed to wealthy shareholders – is what called me to join the credit union movement after working for two different banks. I love that I get the opportunity to help others navigate the financial system and achieve their financial and career goals. I freelance copyedit and copywrite as well.
What attracted you to joining the SBC network?
It’s that same cooperative model of doing business. The idea of creative professionals and entrepreneurs connecting with and supporting each other really appeals to me. I’ve already benefitted from being a part of the SBC Network in so many ways.
We heard you got married and had a baby within the past year. How has your new family/household inspired you creatively?
I have a 10-year-old son and seeing him form a bond with his baby brother that grows each day has been the most amazing experience. He’s protective and overbearing and I love it. Beyond that, having a partner (my husband) who validates me and makes me feel valued – that’s something so, so meaningful that I honestly thought I might never find. Existing in a safe space – where I’m truly content with my family & home – has inspired me to make that shift from daydreaming to goal planning, especially when it comes to my creative and entrepreneurial pursuits. It’s also inspired me to want to write from a more vulnerable place about my personal experiences, some of which will be included in an upcoming blog series for Social B.
If you could start or pursue any business, what would it be?
I’m passionate about financial literacy and the written word, so I think a lot about how I could combine my personal finance coaching skills with my copyediting and writing skills into a business that helps others overcome obstacles and find success. More specifically, I hope to someday focus my skills on helping domestic violence and human trafficking survivors find economic empowerment through resume and interview skill-building and financial education.
Please describe yourself in 3 words.
