Sharing Meaningful Stories, One Conversation At A Time

 In The Buzz

You never know the impact one’s story may have on you. We should spend more time talking about the things that we do, the moments that inspire us, and the people that have changed us. All the good stuff.

hey we should talk is a passion project where Lucas Sigurdson has conversations with creatives across the globe.

Sitting at home one day last winter, feeling very much at a crossroads with my creative work, I started jotting down notes on paper scraps, searching for that next ‘thing.’ The next project to take on, the next idea to see through. These random notes would eventually lead to ‘hey we should talk,’ a media platform I launched in May of this year.

It took several months to get everything in place—from research to planning to brand design (thank you Kallie Goetz with Pip & Cricket!)—but I just knew I had to put in the work and run with it. I was ecstatic at the idea of starting a platform that could be used to tell others’ stories.

As the last year and a half has transpired, I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling the physical disconnect from so many of my friends and family members. I am a people person through and through. I can strike up a conversation with just about anyone, and the pandemic left me longing for just that: face-to-face conversation. I’ve always been so inspired by others’ stories, and in a world so often filled with negative headlines, I wanted to inject some positivity through them. That is my hope for ‘hey we should talk.’

Here in these early days as I work to really get hwst off the ground, I am reaching out to friends all across the country as it starts to build momentum. Setting up video chats, having conversations about folks’ passions, interests, inspirations, and where they come from. Everyone has their own unique story; their own hills and valleys, hardships, and challenges. How you’ve overcome and persevered, how you’ve carried yourself along the way, how you’ve built the life you live: that is so inspiring to me, and I believe it can be inspiring for others, too.

I am taking these conversations and writing up stories about them as a way of engaging with folks through this platform. There is so much power in a simple conversation. I am so passionate about sharing the good that you’re doing, for that good inspires me, and I believe it’ll inspire others, too.

This is still a relatively new passion project, but I look forward to building it over time. I keep reminding myself, I’d never written an article in my life… but I can suck at this and not get fired! Ha! If you are interested in contributing, I’d love to chat. It’d be an honor to hear your story.
