SBC Hive Spotlight Series

 In The Buzz

In this month’s installment of SBC’s hive spotlight, we sat down with Blogger and Project Manager, Kelly Zawierucha, to learn more! She has been an integral part of the blogging team, as well as contributed to SBC projects spanning the country. Please read on to learn more about her professional background and her interests!

Tell us about your professional background. How long have you been in your line of work? What is your current role/position? I hold a securities license and have been in the Financial Services industry for just under 20 years, wearing multiple hats including customer service, financial advisor, marketing, and event planning. I am currently with the Stirling Capital group.

What attracted you to joining the SBC network? I was recommended to SBC and Emily by my friend and fellow SBC freelancer, Amanda Holman. Upon talking to Emily, I immediately loved the concept and culture of the group. It’s a great way to pool together a ton of talented individuals while affording us flexibility and allowing us to be involved on an equal level.

I hear you have a passion for music, specifically bluegrass/folk music. What sparked that interest? Do you play an instrument? How do you support the local music scene? I love bluegrass, folk, and traditional Irish music. Fun Fact: Bluegrass finds its roots in Ireland and Scotland from the people that migrated from there to here, so it’s all interconnected. I have Scottish and Irish heritage and have always been drawn to Irish music and the culture. Four years ago, I started playing tenor banjo, a four stringed instrument, that is commonly played in traditional Irish music. I also dabble with the mandolin and Irish whistle, but banjo is my true love. I support the music scene through running the Toledo Irish American Club. First formed in 1993, the club went strong until 2008. A few years ago, I was determined to resurrect the club and get Toledo back on the map for the Irish music scene. In 2017, I reinstated the 501(c)3 non-profit status and we’ve been booking bands and events since then. Nothing gives me more joy than planning an event knowing I get to introduce people to amazing talent and providing the bands with an audience!

How have you been staying active during the pandemic? Working, maintaining the Irish Club Facebook and Instagram pages, and gearing up for events once we can start having them again! In my free time, I like to walk, bike, play my instruments, cook, and read.

Please describe yourself in 3 words. Zany, Determined, Curious
